Chargers Women 1st, Men 2nd Among 2-Year Schools at Fighting Bee Invite

BETTENDORF, Iowa

The Carl Sandburg College women’s cross country team took first among two-year colleges and the Chargers men’s team was second at the St. Ambrose Fighting Bee Invitational on Saturday at Crow Creek Park.

Nancy Jebet (Eldoret, Kenya/Tulwo Girls) placed 20th overall in the women’s 5K with a time of 21:06.7 to lead the Chargers. Anna Marino (West Burlington, Iowa/Notre Dame) was 26th in 21:47.1.

Sandburg’s women’s squad finished sixth overall in the meet with 163 points, but the Chargers beat out Waubonsee (187) among community colleges.

Andrew Cation (Yates City, Ill./Farmington) took 17th to lead the Chargers in the men’s 8K, crossing the line in 28:55.7. Freshman Ryan Monson (Aledo, Ill./Mercer County) just missed out on a top-20 finish, placing 21st in 29:24.9.

The Chargers totaled 121 points in the meet, good for fifth overall.
